I only found out about this wonderful event on Monday and as I'm preparing for my next market (and looking after Jack, volunteering, washing nappies, visiting relatives, trying to remember to say hello to Hubby...) I don't have time to make something to ive away. How sad!
But then I read that you can offer something that can be used to make handmade crafts. And that's something I've got a lot of. But still, what would stand out amongst all the wonderful giveaways?
Then I thought of something left over from an experimental project many years back and knew it was the right thing to offer. I only hope someone can dream up a use for it.
Avert your eyes, vegans, because it's...

LEATHER!
Make bookmarks, bind corners of something, practice stamping or tooling or whatever people do with leather!
I bought a huge bag of scrap leather several years back when I was trying to make a pair of gauntlets. They were for a geeky friend, swear. I stored the leftovers in airtight bags and they haven't been touched since. This is how much I'm giving away:

There's also four unused sewing machine needles specifically for leather - they've got a triangular shaft or something like that.
The pieces are of varying sizes. Some are largish, some medium, some small and scrappy.

The actual amount of leather I send may vary slightly if it makes a big difference to the postage cost. But only slightly.
The Fine Print:
• To be in with a chance to win this giveaway, comment on this post before the end of Sunday 31st May* and tell me the most outlandish baby names you can think of - one for a boy, one for a girl.
• Winner will be chosen via Jack on Monday 1st June*.
• I will ship internationally (I'm in Australia) but may have to go for seamail rather than airmail depending on costs.
That's it! I hope this pile of leather will make someone very happy.
*This event is being organised by people in the US so that'll be US Eastern Daylight Savings Time. I have no idea what time that is in Melbourne, probably around lunchtime Monday.

When we were going to have a baby, we made up names to tell people who asked (because we didn't want them to know the real name yet). The boy's name was Jeep, the girl's was Blue.
I would love to win the leather. I have just started to get into doll making and they would make great shoes. Then again, I could make a flower to put on a bag, recover some buttons, make an art quilt... Tons of ideas.
I am married to one of those "geeks" who wears the gauntlets for Ren Faire!!! (We both do faire, but he's geekier.)
I would love to win this prize, I like to sew with all sorts of different materials and I love leather!
How about Gargomel for a boy and Sugarplum for a girl? You ought to hear some of our cat names!
Ooh, I'd love to work with some leather. I'm making little slipper shoes for my daughter and I bet some of the pieces would be great for shoe soles.
Girl name: Buoughet (pronounced Buffy -- it's the spelling that's awesome)
Boy name: Ember (actually pretty cool!)
Ok - I have no idea what I would do with the leather but I just have to enter! I actually laughed out loud sitting here at my computer when I clicked on how "Jack" was going to pick the winner! I love the progression of his selection process. That's the cutest thing I've seen in a very long time!
Best to you!
:)S
PS Hop on over to my blog and win a cute gift set for that cutie pie of yours!
Oooh! Fun!
Okay...baby names:
Girl: Echo (It's a little weird, but I love it, actually! LOL!)
Boy: Spike. Don't get me started. I'm pretty sure my husband would name our kid that if we had one! LOL!
I've made it through almost the whole giveaway list now, and yours is refreshingly unique -- leather!!!
Baby names -- Oscar and Maya? (say them together.) :)
I would LOVE to win! Count me in!!
As far as names go, I still can't get over Jason Lee naming his boy "Pilot Inspektor Lee"... EH!! And for a girl, Gwenneth's little "Apple" gets me every time!!!
cool leather!
thanks!
My husband loves leather work so I am entering more for his benefit.
We are having a baby in August and have nicknamed bump Diggory Quigley. Diggory from the Narnia books and Quiqley from the 'Quigley down under' movie... My family are scared we intend to use it!
Strange girl names... Jayla, my cousin just used this and I think of a prison warden everytime I hear it LOL
I would love to have some new leather. I've started getting into making jewelry with it!
Baby names? I love Ezra for a boy. I find girl names hard to decide on since I have 3 boys. But one I've always loved is Lulabell.
What an awesome give-away!! Leather is such great stuff to work with! I am primarily a quilter -- I think I would stamp/emboss, paint, and stitch on several pieces and then put them all together into a small art quilt. Fun!
:) Linda
Oh man, leather! Shoe bottoms... patchwork bag... I feel inspired when I look at that.
Boy: Havel
Girl: Passina
Ash for the girl and Tre (as in Tray) for the boy. So you would just have to yell ashtray and both kids would come running. Unfortunately some thoughtless parents really used these two names.
Suki and cyrus :)
I heard the funniest girl's name..
la-a no, that's not pronounced "lay-uh" or "lah-uh" or whatever.. that is "luh-dash-uh"
Boys? A childhood acquaintance just named her boy "token" Uhm.. yeah.
Oh I can think of a hundred uses for leather. Of any size scraps. Outlandish girl name - Candy is the only one that comes to mind. But for boys, I've got one: Donus. Someone my brother knew actually had that name.
great idea!
as for names:
I have a daughter Pepper and I think if anyone says once more is her brother called "salt" I may scream! his name is cooper for the record! cheers
Bron
I went to school with two sisters who's names were Charity and Destiny, I think the worst part was their surname was Hope!!!! Poor poor kids.
I have a son who's name is Oscar and being an Australian we do like to call him Ozzy or Aussie but I did read not too long back a poor little boy who was named 'Aussie'. Talk about patriotic!
Ah! Leather!
Love the stuff. The smell, the feel.
I haven't ever sewed any but would love to give it a shot.
Either baby or doll shoes.
Crazy baby names I have heard: Mojca - girl ( I went to school with her - pronounced moyt-ca)
and my nephew is Joren.
My friend named her girl Damien October. She was going to name her Enoch Kendall if she was a boy.
Thanks for the giveaway!

Great giveaway! Let's see...for a boy I'd say Spot and for a girl Heaven-Lee (I had a friend in high school who intended on doing that and I really hope he doesn't!).
For a girl: Hollandaise (Holly for short)
Oh, great. Now I've gone and using up all my clever-ness for the girl's name that I can't think of anything for a boy.
Ummm
How about matsuzaka and call him Matt for short.
I'd love the leather to start to get the feel of it. I make bags, and I would love to start leather soon...
My parents made up fake names, too, to tell people their baby names... They chose Elvira Rose and Scooter Anthony. I don't think those are absolutely horrible names, but back in the mid 70s, I think that took some guts!
When I was pregnant my husband asked which I preferred "Eulonia" or "Zebediah." I opted for "Eulonia." He then told me he was kidding and neither were an option. Thank goodness.
Well, for a boy, Boswell could be an unusual name, and hmmm a girl, button. The go together, Button and Boswell! I think those are unusual names! Thank you for the leather givaway!
Kristin
Outlandish names... hmm...
I know of a girl called Precious Gem. And boy's names are a little tougher ... maybe that former Much Music VJ up here in Canada? His name is Rainbow Sun Franks.
I love leather. My hubby has been bugging me to make him wrist bands for so long. Yes, he's a bit of a geek hehehe
I am no good of thinking of my own outlandish names, but some of the names of my students include Victory (boy), Patience (boy) and Jezara (girl). Great giveaway, thanks
Love the leather-- so many fun ideas, but have been wanting to make a little clutch, and if there's not enough, there might be enough to make some sort of patchwork for a clutch! My husband had some really ridiculous name that he called our little one before we knew the gender. Now for the life of me I can't remember it! I'll ask him so that I can tell you if I win!
When we were expecting my third, my son wanted to name the baby Baby Bottle. This was for either a boy or a girl. I would love some of the leather scraps.
i always find it fun when trends kick in of naming babies after random nouns (like apple!) but wouldn't it be awful to be named after an animal? boy: monkey girl: hen
thanks for the opportunity to win that yummy leather stash!

Oohhhh leather.... I hope my sewing machine can sew it lol.
I remember a boy that lived in my town named "Oranjello" (look closely... it's from "orange jello") and I know a girl whose name is "Diamond Coke."
Awesome giveaway!
I am 8. I am learning to sew.
I am having a giveaway as well at
www.sewingsister.blogspot.com
and so is my mom at www.sewingwithtrudy.blogspot.com

My favorite boy name is Bobby Apple... hehe I have loved it for about 5 years now, my husband says no... but I can't help but hope that we can have one. For a girl I would want to name her Jubal Early, apparently after I thought of this for a girl I learned that this was really a boys name... but I love it and think Jubal would make a lovely girls name. My husband said no to this one too. :(
Thanks for doing this giveaway!

Oh, I would love to get a chance to play with that. The most I've gotten to do with leatuer was to tear apart a thrift store leather coat, in hopes of building a sheath for a sword my boyfriend ground out of a leaf spring (he's since grown tired of that method, and built his own forge). Said sheath has yet to be successful.
As for kid's names, I don't know. Apple? My name is Tala, which is weird enough that no one pronounces it right the first few tries. I've given up correcting people- now I just go "Yeah, you got it, moving on!"
Oh, this is a difficult question !
For a boy it would be Nestor and for a girl... Nestorine !
Raisin, girl; Pop for boy
I think I'm going to win!
pjjllive(at)gmail(dot)com
I just bought some leather needles just in case, and here's your giveaway!! Maybe soles to house slippers...
For a girl: Dolphin Wisteria (haha, I know, it's bad!)
For a boy: Khan
I might try to patch together enough leather to make a small handbag if I win, I've got my fingers crossed!
Hi there, what about Jacobus (pronounced like Ya-co-bus)- that's my sons name and a girl I always like Xsaxsa - but was never allowed it!
i had been thinking about some projects that involved leather a short while ago. i let them go because i didn't know when i'd be getting any. thanks to yr unique giveaway, they might actually happen!
awesome!!
I'm always trying new things. Why not leather? Weird names...well usually I love strange names. I know of someone who named their child Tator, which I thought was different. For a girl, I knew a girl named Vixen...I think her mom should have been forced to not name her that.
I would like to win the leather : I will use it to make decorative cabochon work
aww yes! I do bookbinding and leather bits are good :)
Everyone else has such good baby names....
My husband keeps coming up with excellent baby boy names... Jeremetrius and other such from Simpsons, but our favorite is Metrobus (metro bus), with the stress on the "o". Sounds all Latin.
Girl name? my mother used to work at a charity and she came across a baby named "twinkle wonderland"... but perhaps the best I've heard of is "Le-a," pronounced "Ledasha."
(Looking through the other comments, I see someone else used the ledasha... and, for the record, I deal with social security death index stuff at work (a list of dead US citizens, basically), and there really are several real people named oranjello or variations on it!)
Oh please pick me because I'd give this all to my dad who would create something WONDERFUL out of it! He's totally into making leather good right now!
Outlandish names? The other day on TV I heard that someone named their little girl LaDasha only they spelled it La-A! As for boys, I'm thinking something along the lines of Posely.
Hugs & Blessings!
Oooh. I could definitely use some of this on some soft baby shoes. Or keyfobs. Or a hundred other projects! I'm having a really hard time coming up with outlandish baby names for you! I have such a hard time finding anything for me! This isn't really outlandish, but my grandmother's name was Veneta. She pronounced it "Veh-NEE-tah" but I think the more Italian "Veh-NEH-tah" is also beautiful. For a boy? My husband wanted to name ours something money related. He liked this for a middle name: $. Yes, you read that right. A dollar sign, plain and simple. It would have been pronounced "Cha-ching!" Maybe he would have gotten closer to having his wish if it were something more like Cash. That's a good boy's name.
oh - I have two - my parents told my grandmother that they were naming me "Bozana Marie" and my younger brother "Obedia Blodgett" to keep her from suggesting other even more horrible names for us.
I don't have any leather but I have a leather needle!! My neighbours daughters name is Juno ( named before the movie and our sons name is Bear... which is a little bit crazy!! We're having a give away too YAY!!
xo Steph
